COSMOS 1 Solar Sail Program

I am a volunteer with the Planetary Society ... One of the sponsors of Cosmos 1 ...

Cosmos 1 will be launched from a Russian Submarine with a modified ICBM on June 21 (hopefully) ... It has NO onboard fuel and utilizes solar sails that will use the solar wind (energy from the sun) to propel it ... Just like the first explorers on earth used sails and wind to travel on ships ...

June 21, 2005, when Cosmos 1 -- the first solar sail, unfurls its 50-foot Mylar sails and begins orbit around our Earth, it will make history as a true stepping stone in the exploration of deep space. Nearly everyone on Earth will be able to see Cosmos 1 as it flies overhead.

After launch you will be able to determine it's location in the sky by going to the following web site ...

Please forward this to anyone who may be interested ... Thanks ...

Note: The first stage of the Russian rocket failed to fire for the proper time and Cosmos 1 apparantly didn't make orbit.
